The Handbook on China and Globalization has contributions from leading experts and international researchers. Each chapter covers key topics regarding China’s participation in globalization, including: China’s new role in global economic governance; outward direct investment; China’s soft power and the implications for foreign relations; global migration, diaspora and talent.

Dickie Liang-Hong Ke and Enrique de Diego co-authored a chapter on Chinese entrepreneurship going abroad, where they argue how China has moved from being an imitator to exporting innovation. The chapter starts with a brief history of science, technology, and innovation in China and then details how China in 2017 was a “land of entrepreneurship”. The chapter later assesses five companies that were at the forefront of innovation in that year: Baidu, Alibaba, Tencent, Huawei, and Xiaomi, and discusses further examples of a new wave of technological innovation such as DJI, Didi, or ofo. The chapter finishes with an assessment of China’s role in technology, capital, talent, and geographical focus for Chinese companies
